Paper foundation patterns are reversed for placing fabric sections on the back and sewing on the lines in the front. Seams are 1/4 inch. The outside edges of the paper block are finished edges or will indicate seam allowance of ¼ inch. I tend to provide ½ inch seam allowance for the combining of blocks and then trim as needed to ¼ inch before sewing. Cut strips for each color allowing the width to be at least an inch greater than the width of the section to cover. Practice on one block to see how much fabric allowance you require for the piecing onto the foundation. Taking very small stitches will help in the quick removing of the paper. Check to see if the fabric covers the section adequately, press, and trim to ¼ inch. Sew the sections following the number sequence. Scrap quilts calling for a medium blue, for instance, will require you to combine all blues in the mid range of color saturation. Add borders before removing the paper foundation. Use tweezers to help remove the paper. A good old movie on TV is very helpful for completing this process. For
